There are many legends surrounding this day, one of them suggests that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to secretly perform marriages for young lovers.
The legends also tell us that Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. It is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl to whom he wrote a letter, which was signed 'From your Valentine' - an expression that is still in use today. The Valentine legends certainly emphasize his appeal as a heroic, sympathetic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that from the Middle Ages until present days, Valentine remains one of the most popular saints.

Here is another excuse for celebration: today is the Chinese New Year!
It is going to be the year of the Ox, boys and girls, say "bye-bye" to the year of the Rat.
More precisely it will be the year of the Earth (or Black) Ox. It is characterised to be strong-willed, steady, quiet, persevering, traditional, sincere and loyal. It will be a good time to set the firm grounds for the future success in anything that you do, be it your own business, your family life or just something that you always wanted to do, but never came about doing it. Now is a good time.

As you know, Chinese calendar is different to the Western calendar, and every year the Chinese New year happens on a different day, if you follow me. This time it is 26th of January, last year it was 7th of February. This is because the Chinese count lunar months of 29 days each, with 12 month in a year. In order to make up the full 365 days in a year a full extra month is added for the leap year.
